How Racing Works

🏁 The Daily Global Championship

Every day at 10:00 AM (UTC-5), 10 competitors race around the planet:

  1. N.Virginia Start - Race begins
  2. London Checkpoint - First international segment
  3. Tokyo Checkpoint - Asia-Pacific segment
  4. N.Virginia Finish - Complete the global circuit

The competitors start in sequence, with the number indicating their starting position. #1 starts first, and #10 starts last. It’s not a coincidence that competitor #1 is usually slower — being the very first to run means it triggers a cold start in AWS Lambda.

Winners are determined by fastest total time, with segment records tracked separately across all races.

⏱️ Understanding Time Measurements

All race times are displayed in microseconds (μs) for maximum precision:

1 second = 1,000,000 microseconds (μs)
1 millisecond = 1,000 microseconds (μs)

Examples:

  • 5,000,000 μs = 5.0 seconds
  • 1,500,000 μs = 1.5 seconds
  • 250,000 μs = 0.25 seconds (250 milliseconds)
